Plantable Paper Making Workshop with Lou Smith + Ruby Jackson - July 8th
Learn the art of plantable paper making with recycled materials and seasonal seeds! The process is experimental and fun with such rewarding results! While our paper dries in the sun we will sip yummy beverages and discuss the creation of plant based inks to use on your hand made paper products and possibilities for binding the paper creations into a beautiful book.

This workshop will cover:
-The steps of preparing paper pulp
-Types of seed variations that can be added to the paper
-How to paint with natural dyes on the paper
-Bookbinding possibilities
All materials are provided. You are welcome to bring in your own seeds or dried flowers to add to the paper pulp. Additional details and confirmation will be sent the week before the workshop.

Louise Smith (she/her) is a painter and art educator living and working in Hudson, NY. Painting on textured and porous surfaces is where she best explores her interest in color and in the deconstruction and disintegration of material and form.
She is passionate about providing creative programming for youth in the Hudson Valley and has worked closely with students at Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School for the past three years.
Louise graduated with a BFA from Bard College and a Post-Baccalaureate degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her artwork has been exhibited in Washington, D.C., New York, and Mexico City.

Ruby Jackson (she/her) is a sculptor and arts educator living and working in Chatham, NY. Jackson received a MFA from Rutgers University in 2020 and a BA from Bard College in 2015. Recent exhibition venues include Iowa Projects, NADA Foreland, the Mount Lebanon Shaker Museum, Border Patrol and Vox Populi. Pulling from her agricultural and arts background, Jackson is excited about offering unique and innovative programming for youth in the Hudson Valley. She has spent the last several years working closely with elementary students in Pittsfield, MA and hopes to continue to provide art and nature connection programs for children nearby.
